Ecological Consultants at Pure Ecology are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), the professional body representing and supporting ecologists and environmental managers in the UK. Our Ecologists and associates hold protected species survey licences in England (issued by Natural England) and Wales (issued by Natural Resources Wales) and have a have specialist skills in a wide range of habitat and species survey techniques.

Pure Ecology Ltd. was established by Anton Kattan in 2011 and the consultancy has been growing organically with a reputation for delivering high quality services and practical solutions for our clients. In 2014 we established our main office on Ledbury High Street. We have a friendly, dedicated team and welcome enquires from private home owners to commercial ventures.

Anton Kattan MSc. MCIEEM has been a consultant ecologist since 2001 and has a background with a multi-disciplinary engineering company and as Principal Ecologist for a leading independent ecological consultancy. He has managed road and rail schemes and has a breadth of experience with large-scale development projects that distinguishes Pure Ecology as a small consultancy with big capabilities. Anton’s technical expertise is with protected species and he has advanced skills and competencies for bat survey work. In 2015 he qualified as a Registered Consultant with Natural England and is one of a few consultants that hold a low impact class licence. As an experienced consultant with a strong academic background, Anton applies rigorous scientific methods and is focused on client needs to provide practical advice to each project.

Robert Pelc MSc. GradCIEEM joined Pure Ecology in 2015 after two years working as a sub-consultant with us. Robert is an experienced ecologist and holds a licence for bats in England and Wales and is currently working towards his great crested newt survey licence. He is specializing in protected species work and has key skills with advanced bat survey for trapping bats using mist nets and harp traps. Many of his skills have been developed through his involvement in research and conservation work, both locally (in Herefordshire) and internationally. He has been involved with research in the Ukraine conducted by the Biology Research Institute at Kharkov National University on “Bat migration and development of wind energy in Ukraine” and continues to work in Poland on bat conservation. With a background in freshwater biology from Silesian University, Katowice, Poland where he specialized in freshwater invertebrates, Robert is proficient in aquatic surveys and water quality assessment. Robert is our GIS technician and uses the QGIS platform for mapping.

Anna Gundrey BSc MCIEEM is an associate consultant with Pure Ecology and is our botanical expert. Anna has been a professional botanist since 1996 and has surveyed a wide range of habitats throughout her career including National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys of upland and lowland plant communities as well as brownfield and aquatic habitats. Anna has a particular interest in grassland habitats and has undertaken botanical monitoring of agri-environment schemes for ADAS, managed the botanical fieldwork programme for the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research and is a member of the Botanical Society of the British Isles (BSBI). As a consultant ecologist Anna has developed skills and capabilities in protected species and holds survey licences for great crested newts and bats. Anna and Anton have worked together since 2008.

Asha Dhunnoo is our office manager and finance controller, providing clerical and administrative support to the team. Asha has worked in various office environments from practice fund managing in the health service to running her own business. Asha has key strengths in proofreading and literacy and provides QA support to the team; whilst with Pure Ecology she has developed our accountancy practices. Her background in law and osteopathy lends a wealth of experience bringing a valuable perspecitvie to running our business.
