Renovation of St. Nicholas’ Church

Renovation of St. Nicholas’ Church

The project Renovation of St. Nicholas church in Grosmont, Monmouthshire to repair the roof and help preserve the medieval building. The Parochial Church Council is responsible for the church raised funding for the work and were awarded grants from HLF and Cadw.

Our involvement Evidence of bats in the church was reported by Natural Resources Wales and Pure Ecology was commissioned to be the appointed ecologists for a European Protected Species licence. The project required a full bat survey to evaluate the conservation status of the roosts and we provided support throughout the licensing process, which included developing a mitigation strategy, applying for the licence and providing ecological supervision during the building work. The church supports four bat species, including a maternity roost of brown long-eared bats.
